In the ‘updates’ category, we’ve started carrying NEW books. We picked up new copies of a bunch of stuff by Bukowski, Murakami, and Cormac McCarthy.

Additionally, we’ve really restocked on comics. We’ve got the new Chester Brown, new Dan Clowes, new John Porcellino (where he draws someone else’s words?!?), new Jeffrey Brown (CATS!), and a host of great new small press stuff like Nick Maandag’s Streakers (an amazing comic about streakers) and Death at the Flea Circus (a novel put out by Bottle of Smoke press).

We’ve got Rocktober, Weirdo, a bunch of Complete Crumb and Crumb pamphlet stuff, along with plenty of issues of Blammo, a complete run of used Cerebus comics, a bunch of used Walking Dead comics, and plenty of other awesome weird stuff.

We’ve set up a new Facebook presence AND we’re working hard to set up the Cowtown Comix Festival III, coming this October in Denver.

It’s been a big start to summer, we’re psyched, and hope you are too.

No joke this is a 40-page issue, and while it’s certainly the most robust issue to date, it’s also the darkest, with the best story telling, and the tightest line work young Van Sciver has done to date. We filmed a promo interview for it which we’ll be putting up before too long, but if you just wanna buy your copy of Blammo, check out our ‘shop‘.

Secondly, we have recently gotten in a bunch of great new comics. We’ve really been beefing up the small press comic section, and are proud purveyors of:

Shirtlifter, by Steve MacIsaac

Shirtlifter — a comic out of Southen California by Steve MacIsaac. Steve’s a great guy who’s been putting out Shirtlifter for a while now. We just got in issues 1-3, and we highly recommend them.

While Steve’s pretty graphic depictions of sex aren’t really new in comics, since it’s gay sex, his comics have a hard time finding shelf space in most shops, let alone an audience.

Really, compared to the narcissistic tripe of most of those 60′s dudes who just drew giant dongs ejaculating into outer space, or the shockingly one-dimensional homo-eroticism of most superhero comics, Shirtlifter is amazingly well written, very well drawn, contains though provoking comics, and is full of well developed characters. Check it out

Beyond that we got in a bunch of stuff from the USS Catastrophe folks out in St. Louis. This gang consists of Kevin Huizenga, Ted May, Mardou, and Dan Zettwoch. They put out delightful minis, awesome screen-printed covers, and just overall beautiful books.

The book shown here — Anais in Paris — is a great little bio treat from Mardou, who also puts out the equally excellent ‘Manhole’, all of which are really beautiful – and selling well, so get ‘em whilst they’re hot.

This crew, by the way, makes me jealous of St. Louis. SAINT LOUIS! The amount of talent crammed into these books will really shock you, and it seems the community out there is super tight.

I should add here that if you haven’t picked up Huizenga’s ‘Wild Kingdom’ do it. Do it now. It’s fantastic. AND if you order it from the USS Catastrophe shop, he’ll do a little drawing in there for you. You can see the one he did for me here, and the one for Luke here.

Lastly, we got in a handful of this new mini by one of our favorite local dudes, Sam Spina. Sam stopped in the other day and dropped off his FIFTY CENT MASTERPIECE ‘Dog Craps’.

Sam is one of those rare talents who both was trained in the actual graphic arts, still has a great sense of humor, and works like a dog. Seriously, the longer we’re involved in comics, the more we realize that it’s just DOING THEM ALL THE TIME that makes the difference, and Sam has figured that out too.

We really love his work, and you can buy most all of his catalog at Kilgore, though we highly recommend you keep up with his daily strip over at his blog.

We hope to work with Sam on a bigger project sometime soon, and we’ll letcha all know when THAT happens.

Ok, that’s the updates for now. Oh, though we have gotten in a crapload of other bigger (relatively speaking) press comics, we wanted to highlight some of the great self published stuff that’s out there.

Beyond that we’re tremendously excited to be publishing Noah Van Sciver’s Blammo #7. This will be the second issue we’ve published fully, and this 40-page SPECTACULAR is going to be a mere $5. We‘re gonna set up a pre-order for it ASAP, and we’ll keep you posted on that.

Lastly, we’ve gotten loads of great new comics and books in, so don’t forget to actually come by and support your local shop.

You’ll throw on a coat, run out the door and up the street just as you see the ‘closed’ sign getting flipped over by a dapper looking man in his mid 30′s, who will more than likely also be drinking a beer. And you’ll think, ‘if only I’d stopped by earlier in the week, I’d have a warm companion as I sleep tonight instead of this old TV Guide’.

Seriously though, we do have some great gifts. We’ve got tons of modestly priced used books, great comics — just got a fresh batch of minis from John Porcellino’s excellent distro empire Spit-and-a-Half, and loads of great stuff for your hip/nerdy loved on.

Beyond that, get ready for an awesome new event along 13th ave. We’re pleased to announce the start of ‘SECOND FRIDAY’ on January 14th, right around 6pm. We’re talking to all the businesses along our neck of 13th to set up some fun sales, events, and discounts, so stay tuned!

And that’s in addition to the massive amount of metaphysical stuff we just got — couple dozen Aleister Crowley books alone.

We’ve also moved things around to accommodate our ever growing sci-fi and comics collection.

So really, come on in and you’ll be in for a treat, I assure you.

In the meantime, we do have fun news. We’ve added new shelves, new lights, we’ve moved the main counter around, and have finally catalogues the literally hundreds of vintage underground comics brought in absolutely ages ago.

We also currently have LOADS of Bukowski, Vonnegut, Pynchon, and other wonderful wonderful writers to help you love the fall here in Denver even more than you already do.

AND we just ordered a truckload of books from Top Shelf– seriously, over 100 comics and graphic novels, we’ve restocked up from Last Gasp, and frankly, we’re just looking FINE.

If you don’t know, the Ignatz Awards are a pretty big deal in the indie comic scene. Noah’s been nominated in the ‘Outstanding Comic’ category – past winners have included Jordan Crane (2009), Adrian Tomine (2007), Ivan Brunetti (2006), Kevin Huizenga (2005), Dan Clowes (1997, 2002, 2004), and Chris Ware (1998, 2000).

Further nominees include Seth, Gabrielle Bell, Charles Burns, Pekar, Sacco, and the list just goes on and on. As Noah says, ‘It’s an honor just to be nominated’, but here at Kigore, we don’t believe in honor. Oh wait, that’s not quite right.
